9780062209849_p0_v1_s260x420Here is a debut novel from Britain.  The Death of Bees by Lisa O’Donnell is the story of two teenage sisters from a low class Glasgow family.  Coming home one day, the sisters find their parents dead.  Fearing social services will put them into foster care, they bury their parents in the back yard and come up with the story that they are on vacation.  Their parents are notorious druggies and neglectful parents so few people ask questions at first.  As time goes on, people start to question, including a lonely older man next door who takes in the girls offering them food, shelter and companionship.  Other family members soon get involved wanting the girls as they battle their demons caused by an abusive childhood.  This is a great domestic fiction novel.
