9781250015792_p0_v1_s260x420This debut novel is set in 1930’s Utah.  There readers meet Art Oveson, a rookie Salt Lake County deputy.  He already has plenty on his plate when he gets assigned the murder of the wife of a prominent community doctor.  The poor woman was run over by a car, but the sheriff is in the middle of a heated campaign for reelection and thus doesn’t want to alienate any powerful people.  As Oveson digs deeper and asks more questions he begins to uncover some very dark secrets that place him in grave personal danger.  This won the 2011 Tony Hillerman Prize.
