The White Woman on the Green Bicycle by Monique Roffey

Set in newly independent Trinidad in 1956, the island paradise isn’t quite for newlyweds George and Sabine.  Having just arrived from England, they have struggles in their marriage along with witnessing the struggles that the fledgling nation is facing.  Roffey excels at intertwining the storylines of both the young couple and the young nation, giving a perspective on both.
