Vestments by John Reimringer

02/24/2011

Vestments follows the early career of new Catholic priest, James Dressler.  Raised in a troubled working class family in Saint Paul, Minnesota, James sees the Catholic church as both his salvation and moral compass.  However, once he starts his post in a small town on the Minnesota prairie, James finds himself drawn towards more temptation than someone in his post should.  After getting into some trouble that forces his return to Saint Paul, an old flame reappears in his life to further complicate matters.  This novel looks into the matters of earthly desires and longing for pleasures of the flesh and how that relates to the rituals of the Church.  Beautifully written with wonderful descriptions of Saint Paul and small town Minnesota.
