Twenty-six years ago, as Jody lay asleep in her crib, her father was shot to death and her mom disappeared–presumed dead as well.  Now the man convicted of the crimes has been released and granted a retrial through the efforts of his lawyer son, Collin.  This change of events shocks not only Jody and her family, but the entire small Kansas ranching town still haunted by the mysterious events of that fateful night.  After a series of heated exchanges with Collin, Jody where she realizes they both share a deep sense of loss that no-one else could ever understand.  As she too begins to look for answers, Jody opens up many old wounds and discovers many dangerous truths about her family’s past.  This is a very gripping and moving novel.
